Upon acquiring a Master’s Degree and finalizing years of collegiate running, I was hit with the cold reality that another diploma did not signify I would live the great city life people in movies (or influencers on Instagram) seem to have AND that unless I did something about it, my best accomplishments were now behind me.
My reality was that while I applied most of my time and energy to my workplace, my life priorities faded into the back burner. While taking on new roles, supporting after hours, and trying to impress by being a do-it-all team player, I ended up working up to 17-hour days and living my life at a fraction of my potential in and out of my career. How was this the aftermath of years of hard work and accomplishment in the athletic world?
Beyond these truths, lies a deeper issue– when we aren’t conscious and intentional about our actions, it’s easy for external factors to shape our life. I always say, “if you do it once, you can do it again.” and so I have.
Please don’t let your sports years be “the good ol’ days.” Instead, create an opportunity that transfers to the rest of your life. Like me, you can recognize this reality, redirect your path, to reach the success you desire and are destined for.
